HI

When a GC holder joins Air Force or any other Armed force of the US, how sooner will he get citizenship provided that he files for citizenship as soon as the training begins?

I know there are plenty of Nepalese that have gone for US Army. Please share your experience in regards to this matter. I found on the internet that a GC can expedite his application for citizenship. kati time lagchha citizen huna?

Any Nepalese out there in the Air Force? Please share your experience about military life and the citizenship path.

I also kindly request any other person to share information who may have information on this.

Thanks

this is what i found on the internet:

Service During Hostilities : By Executive Order Number 13269, dated July 3, 2002, President Bush declared that all those persons serving honorably in active-duty status in the Armed Forces of the United States at any time on or after September 11, 2001 until a date to be announced, are eligible to apply for naturalization in accordance with the service during hostilities statutory exception in Section 329 of the INA to the naturalization requirements. This means that individuals with even one day of honorable active duty service can apply for citizenship, regardless of how long they have been a resident. Note: Under this provision, individuals who apply for citizenship after discharge must present a DD Form 214, with service characterized as "Honorable," or "General." Those with other characterizations (including Entry Level Separation), are not eligible.

Section 329 of the INA also applies to service-members who served on active duty during World War I, World War II, the Korean Conflict, the Vietnam Conflict, and Operation Desert Shield/Desert Storm.

You are eligible the day you report to boot camp. It takes about 3 month average from the day you apply.

You are eligible to apply from the day you report to boot camp, Your recruiter is misinformed. Military citizenship is prioritized over regular applications for naturalization. USCIS has a dedicated group in Nebraska that process military cases exclusively. Once you report to bootcamp, let your seargent/whatever know that you wish to start your process for naturalization. At least in the Navy, I have known people who received their citizenship by the time they graduate out of bootcamp (8-11 weeks).

I've got a query about all this. Not that it concerns me remotely but I still, I've always been curious about the whole deal.

How long do you need to serve in the Army after you get recruited? Say you have a Bachelor's/Master's, do you get to join the army's technical wings or are you all drafted into combat wings?

I know that a number of Nepalese in the US joined the army ( while I was in the US ) but I never bothered to get any information or w/e.

The type of the job depends on the needs of the military. Obviously for army, the greatest needs are on the front lines, not just infantry but also language translators, logistics and other areas of support. They will match you to a job that your ASVAB qualifies you to. Until you raise your right hand and take the oath of enlistment, you are allowed to walk away anytime for any reason.

That doesn't answer my question though. What's the catch of awarding a Citizenship? Surely, you're not saying that a recruit can walk off as soon as he receives his Citizenship?

when you sign up for the army, you have obligation to serve for at least 4 years of active duty and i think probably another 4 years on reserve. if you leave the army before your term or even are discharged under "dishonorable" conditions, they your citizenship will be revoked.

i am just curious as to why you care about it since you are supposedly in nepal?

Kaji Sahab, I was merely curious man. I've heard of my friends talk about a prospect of serving the US Army and I was quite wary about it.

As it stands, none of them ended up joining the Army. Instead, they're working as Accountants and Insurance agents.
