I've just had a trip to US via DELHI and there was no problem at all I had to stay till 2 am to catch a flight of British airways.I was just amazed by the condition of the Delhi airport prior to that I have heard abt the problems that they give ,harass you but I have not seen anything as such in delhi airport also it was clean and upto the world standard.Had some snacks in the food court and took BA flight. For me No problem at all , I didn't find anything as such to differentiate the facilites they were providing from Newark or heathrow or singapore airports.

Here is my experience: Yes, you have to wait for about 8-10 hours at Delhi Airport depending on your flight. But unless you can afford a private Jet from US to Nepal, it is the same for most of the route. I took Gulf air last time and had to wait 5 hrs at Frankfurt and another 7 hours at Bahrain. Before that I took Cathy, had to wait 5 hours at SFO and another 7 hours at Hong Kong and so on. The Customer service was way better than many Middle East countries airport where I was treated like sh** coz of my Nepali passport. (not better than Hong Kong or Singapore though). I can't say how Delhi airport was 2-4 ago but now most of the airport staff are very young well in there mid 20's and they were very helpful. One guy offered me a business lounge for $75 which even included a nice Indian dinner from Ashoak hotel. To my surprise there were even some recline chairs at the airport if you decide not to pay $$. Yes they take your passport and disappear for 2-4 hours and that was little scary. But it’s their rule for every transit passenger, not just Nepali. There was a US army contractor on his way to Afgistan and they even took his passport. And about Jet airways flight from Delhi to KTM, Jet airways was just awesome. They served us a nice meal (one of the best flight mean I ever had) even the flight was less than 2 hours. They served my 2 year old boy a nice kid’s meal with a very nice goody bag. And the best part of my flight was price. Cost me $400 less per person than flight via Middle East or other Asian countries. I was at my home at Kathmandu in less than 30 hours I left my home at US. I'll fly Via Delhi anytime.

Guys, I have travelled a couple of times. Didn't find a problem. They have renovated the airport and seems like the guys have become more professional than they used to be before. Since there are youngsters on the counters, they seem more educated and cultured. The immigration guys are oldies, so never mind if they stare you from over their spectacles. The police are the same as before - corrupt minded, but generally they don't bother.

All it depends on perception, anywhere in third word countries you not going to get the services like in USA and Europe. They have not developed the system that we are expecting. If you have been traveled to India in past you know what to expect and what to do, that will ease your travel. As in the blog, has given some good points, do not hesitate to bargain. It may be good to be well informed but all information you have feed , may not be faced by you. Silly shi*t happens to travelers.
Personally , I do not suggest to travel with pre-occupied mind and along with families( children).

Last time i went to Nepal i wen't Via Delhi, Not a very good experience but that had nothing to do with Delhi Airport , The freaking Problem was with Delta Here in US. Got late so miised my connection in Delhi, Tyo pani i had seperate tickets so i wasn't very optimistic, But Jet Airways People were very helpful , i had Jet Lite tickets but there were no available seats for the next two days so they gave me a Jet Airways tickets , so had very good impression of Jet Airways . Anyways who are we to complain the Airport is far more better than Kathmandu Airport ..

Hi I am querious, do you have to claim the baggage at delhi airport too.. and have to carry that luggage where ever you go. Actually my parents are coming via delhi.. Ktm to delhi, delhi to frankfurt and than US. So do they check luggage at ktm airport to be cliamed directly at US or you have to claim luggage at delhi airport and than check in again after 8 hours.. Actually its their first time and i am just worried about that, dont want them to take any hassel.

In My Case I had told the officials in ktm airport as thru' checking that I will be collecting my luggage in my port of entry in US.After that yeah In Delhi for some time the airways people take your passport with them but will return after some time .And In my case they just make sure if the luggage was mine but I needn't check in again just recognize the luggage of mine .No,Problem at all SO,If you say ur parents to do through checking in KTM then there would be no problem , atleast in my case there was no problem at all.

NRN just one caution! Make sure with your Travel agent that the flight to Nepal from Delhi is from the international terminal. Sometimes they make you take jet airways flight from their "domestic terminal" and its a NIGHTMARE!!!
