KATHMANDU, March 26 - Turning deaf ears to the chastisement
for their unruly activities against candidates of other parties, the
Maoist-affiliated Young Communist League (YCL) cadres continued their violent
activities, Tuesday.
In Lamjung, YCL cadres used a novel way to obstruct election campaigns of
Nepali Congress (NC) candidate, Tulsi Narayan Shrestha, by rolling down stones
on the way at Sadikhola while Shrestha's team was heading to Pachok Tuesday.
However, the YCL's motive to stop them from visiting voters was dampened as
security personnel intervened chased the league cadres away.
Similarly, another YCL group obstructed an electoral mass meeting of CPN-UML
at Nauthar of the district the same day. Many UML supporters were barred from
attending the program after the YCL men blocked their way with boulders and
barriers.
In Sunsari district too, the YCL cadres tried to disrupt an election program
of Rastriya Janashakti Party at Hansposa. However, the program was resumed after
representatives of UNMIN and National Human Rights Commission reached the site
soon after.
Meanwhile, issuing a statement on Tuesday, NC said that Maoists threatened to
kill its supporter Baldev Tamang at Sindhupalchok district.
Similarly, YCL cadres frustrated an election rally of UML at New Road in the
capital on Tuesday. Election mobilization committee of UML constituency-8 said,
in a statement, that the YCL men tried to obstruct the women's rally led by its
candidate Ashtalaxmi Shakya and misbehaved with the participants.
Meanwhile, at least a dozen cadres of Nepali Congress (NC) and Madhesi
People's Rights Forum (MPRF) were injured when a scuffle ensued between them at
Madhuban of Sunsari district, Tuesday.
The NC and Tarai Madhes Democratic Party (TMDP) cadres also clashed at
Phulparasi VDC, of Sarlahi, Tuesday.
