I did not know the king iis daring a military takeover soon. According to a person at the top of the NA, the king is soon launching a military takeover as a last-ditch effort to stay in power. So tell all people concerned about the future of Nepal, beaware! It is not a hoax but a reliable

Mr TestDirector, Please refrain from spreading baseless rumors in public forums unless you intend to put yourself on everybody's shitlist. You don't wanna be the next "soktim" man! But even if the rumor is true, then my assumptions that Gyanendra is not as smart as he looks will be true. Well he looks like a "noon khaayeko khukura" all the time anyway.

Nonsense! Such a thing would surely be suicidal for the King. The King himself is prolly not ready for it. I think even the Army is not ready going by how accommodating they have been of the government and the improving relations between the PMO and the Army top brass facilitated by the PM's security advisors. "I would rather support the king if he does a coup" Saroj - As a republican, I can only hope your wish comes true - it's makes the job of establishing a republic so much easier. Have a good day all.

it could very well be a mere rumor but i don't completely write off the possibility of it's happening in the future. however, at the moment or in it's near vicinity, it looks highly unlikely. 1) let this unpredictability in nepali politics go on for a year and half or so. 2) let it seem like the CA is never gonna take place. 3) let the maoists keep extorting, looting, kidnapping and all for more. 4) let girija die (god forbids) and SPA dwell more into their internal conflicts. G Shah and his cronies will be back and back in business. do i sound like a conspiracy theorist. SOWIE! :P LooTe

True, Loots, budday boy :) It cant be written off in the future - nothing can. Politics is the art of the impossible and anything can happen. We could have a Royal coup or a Maoist one. Or an Indian backed one. We could even have a sufficiently functional democratic state I suppose. The trends today are against the Monarch and if the past is any indication, I dont see the trend reversing nationwide. I suppose it might in Kathmandu, whose elites have been much more pragmatic towards both the parties and the Monarch, but the republican train has left the station in Nepal and I think it will be extremely hard to stop it. At best the King can hope for a ceremonial Monarchy. At worst, he may have to start packing his bags soon. Will the military save him? That's the only scenario I see for a coup at this time and I dont think the Generals are willing to risk that much for him right now. Just my thoughts.

The only way I could see this particular king coming back is like the saviour(just like in the Bible). he he In this case he saves Nepal. ha ha ha If he takes country by force of army ...he he there will be bloodbat...., we will be right back to where we were last year when he wus callin the shot and we got nowhere. To keep his current net worth... he he he should suck up to the people and play the role of the saviour just like Hesus I mean Jesus to christians, Mohammed to Islam, and Moses to Jewish people. Maybe even change his name from SHreee Panch to Reverand Gyaney Shah ....maybe ha ha ha ha ha

HAHAHAHAHAHAHA BC, or may be if he can show up like one of them superheros-- superman probably, with his gaudy red underwear over his tight blue outfit. hahahahaha.... but seriously, time is a great healer ni hoina? i agree with captain in that the republican wave is here to stay. and so it will, i hope -- i believe and i dream! :P...but let's for few minutes, think that nepal is gonna go into further chaos. i am an optimist mind you, and i don't want to believe that it will happen, but let's just, in the context of this thread, think that CA is going to seem like "mission impossible" in a year or so. we all know, we are in a transient state and that the maoists' atrocities is still far from over. let's assume, prachanda, baburam et. al are not able to take their cronies under full control and say there is a big faction of maoists coming out for a pure violence and conflict motive with royalists putting fuel on it. even with this unanimous hue and cry for a republic nepal, we can still fall into bits and pieces and in worst case be thrashed into utter chaos and civil war possibly. and with army's top brass still loyal to the king-one way or the other, G Shah can very well play a part of a savior, if he wills. :P something to think about ni hoina? as much as i don't see it happening, i don't completely deny its possibility. :P

Ha ha ... BC, I wouldn't be surprised if he has messianic ambitions - look at the amount of religion on display these days :) But seriously, I think the Monarchy's best bet is to lay low. A good-ish Monarch is so much harder to get rid of than one perceived to be bad. Loots - Speculative politics makes for great academics and sometimes even entertainment but not much beyond that I think :) You cant practice politics entirely off such speculation. But true, should those scenarios play out, anything might happen. That's when you try and look at things from bottom up and top down and see what the most realistic scenarios are. I have little use for speculation otherwise.

I might be the worst person to talk to about neplese politics and its mishaps but if Nepal can be a republic state from ceremonial Monarcy in this easy manner why cant it change back to ceremonial monarchy from republic state...it only it takes 6-7 guys to decide Nepal's future ..why cant someone in 5-6 yrs of time start it allover again.....I am not supporting anyone here and i think so is 80% of Neplese but things that can be changed will be changed until and unless the reacting force is strong enough. That to me is Neplese People, general people like me who work hard for living>Until and Unless they think we need to stop this change ,the pendulum will continue swinging.

Interesting Heading.... I doubt the King will dig his own grave...he is simply waiting and watching for all these greedy politicians to self-destruct....Its a matter of when, not IF they starting their true self and pride on eachother's demise only t oembolden the King ! Having said that, we need election more than just declare a mere Republic....Let people have their say...haven't we seen enough of these politicians and their strategies, which sadly enough, only revolves around themselves....

Houston Texas - I hear you but if your nick name is any indication of where you are, then you probably have even less of a voice. Whether or how much your voice counts is a debatable point but voting is prolly the best shot you have at making it count. Hom Lal - True, there is a good chance a republic may come sooner. And India's protection of the Monarch is very plausible too. But the key is even Indian pressure can go so much against the popular tide in Nepal - especially in a democratic Nepal where people are willing to come to the streets. And India is not one monolithic institution that knows what the hell they want in Nepal. The military-intelligence group seems to think quite differently from South Block at times which in turn is often out of step with the politicians and the Indian Embassy has a mind of its own at times. But I am eagerly observing the whole thing playing out.

I GIVE A RAT'S ASS IF THE POLITICIANS LISTEN TO ME...MY POINT IS THEY HAVE NEVER LISTENED TO WHAT PEOPLE HAVE TO SAY.....EVEN THOU THEY DO A GOOD JOB OF TRYING TO TIE ALL THEIR POLITICIAL IDEALOGIES TO THE SO CALLED PEOPLE'S VOICE OR WHATEVA THEY CALL IT ! TOO BAD IF U FEEL THEY ARE THE ROLE MODELS OF THE DEMOCRATIC NEPAL...

The way peoples voices are heard is through the vote - no matter whose voice it is - yours or anyone elses. We can debate whether the vote is fair but all those complaining about their voices not being heard should be voting (and being in Nepal to do so) is my point. I am tired of hearing our elites complain about the state of the country but when it comes to voting time, they are not the ones to stand in line with "smelly" people and bear the sun and rain and cast their votes. It so much easier to take the escapist route and say it doesnt matter whether we vote or to condemn the entire process because they cant come to terms with the political reality in Nepal. Also, to a different point, I am quite appalled to see people living in a state of denial about the newfound position of the Monarchy and still harboring fanciful dreams of the King returning to power. Wishful, if not suicidal, thinking. Just the type the republicans need to banish the monarchy.
