Hey guys,

I am on a f1 visa. I worked by giving my ssn last year and had some amount deposited to ss taxes and medicare. last year, i had a CPT and was doing my internship and working in a store where such a thing happened. this year, i have a work authorization. do you guys know how i can get my money back from ss taxes and medicare? i mean i dont want any deposits there as it might affect me later when i try to change my status or apply for a green card.

thanks,

Root

once the money is gone to uncle sam's pocket its gone:) unless u claimed in your tax returns.
by having deposits????i didn't understand.
well if u paid something that you think you should not have and now it is in the Sam's pocket ,Don't worry SAm is not going to bother .He likes your money:).
I don't think this would anyhow affect your GC or anything.

OH Yes

I have same case and i received all easily.
you will only get 50% of your total sum.
First ask to your employer it.In turn they will receive the 50% of the money that they added in your social security and medicare.

if they do not do that for you :

All you need is to fill in some form 1or 2 page ( i don't remember number now but if you look on tax filling instruction for non resident alien you will find it) and letter from the Job from where they have deposited your money in social security and medicare.

Finally you have to send your application to the office in your state they send your social security and medicare not in regular tax filling address. Ask your employer they will tell you. they will return your money in 6-8 weeks

goodluck

Sumas, Nepal doesn't have any special tax treaty with US unlike US and India. And you were able to get your money back .that is really good.
