Children go missing on a daily basis in Nepal, where kidnappers, who are usually neighbors or relatives, hope to make money through ransoms. Police say underreporting, caused by parents’ fears of kidnappers murdering their children, keeps them from doing their job. Others say law enforcement and punishments are inadequate.
