I need some serious suggestion from experienced & enthusiasts of Sajha. I am thinking to go for PhD in Financial Engineering/ Finance and possibly return Nepal after graduation. I am currently working in engineering field (not in finance & management). I don't want to make my decision dominated by my emotions so I need some good advice. Could you suggest what I gain & what I lose after four years.
All kind of suggestions/scenarios are welcome

Apart from the subject being "just different", I would ask these questions to myself:
1. What career goal I would like to accomplish? Just curious, why the gigantic jump to FE.
2. What do I consider to be worthwhile?

There are bunch of different forum that you can visit and get the idea. I think the forum from Baruch college is huge. Financial engineering is huge in the us and has a great starting salary but I am not sure how much benefit you can have I'm Nepal with that degree

Thank you guys for your response.
smooth, I agree with you. I have already an experiece of dropping out from a PhD program & I don't want to make that mistake again.

The addiction of playing with money made me attracted toward financial engineering . Made & lost lot of $$ in the money market. So I thought concrete knowlege would lead me to some peace :) & some different job. Talking about my career goal, I would like to end up in some government job in Nepal where I can make nice money & contribute for Nepal. or starting my own financial company :)
dolphin, thank you for the info
Let the discussion continue. Other pros & enthusiast, please have your opinion.
