I am planning to visit my family around November/December. After reading the thread "looting in Kathmandu" I am really worried to buy my ticket. How safe is it to go kathmandu these days? Anybody currently in Kathmandu can suggest me what is actually going on? Are these all looting/extortion news just a rumors or few isolated incidences or real. I hope things are not that bad but........

Situation is Kathmandu is nothing like what the thread says. Kathmandu has been safest in last 7 years. GO visit your family and friends and have a good time.

~ Nepalithito76, I am 100% agree with you. I just visited 2 months ago and stayed in Ktm for 45 days. Nobody cares about you. Everybody has their own business. But try to keep you in low profile........good luck! Cheers,

I think It would be OK if you just visit Kathmandu but do not go to the village. Because there they knew you were coming from USA where money grows in tree and ask for donation. In my case they ask for 4 lakhs but finally settled for 40 thousand rupees. But I did not hear anything like that in Kathmandu. May be recently it has been changed. You have to be just careful and as miracle mentioned just keep in low profile.
