I moved from Nevada to Kentucky for my new job while my wife stayed back in Nevada for her work. I was trying to deduct the moving expenses and had a quick question. I flew back and forth 5-6 times in 2016 to meet my wife and move my stuff as well. Can I deduct the entire flight cost as moving expenses or what would be the best way to deduct those cost?

Please let me know.

$3903 is the max you can make deduction from. so even if you put 50K as your moving expenses it doesn't matter, you can only deduct $3903. Hope it helps

Isn't $3,903 IRS From rather than the allowable movimg expenses limit?

My flight cost was total of $2000 for entire trips in 2016. But my main question is can I claim those flight costs as moving expenses as well?

Moving household goods to the new residence is deductible. All expenses must be reasonable. Flight to home to visit are not, so the question becomes a factual one. Was visiting the family the main purpose? Or moving the stuff was the main purpose? Is the total cost of six flights cheaper than the cost of using a commercial mover? If you calim that six flights were necessary to complete your moving process, then be prepared to back it up with the IRS if they question it. At the end of the day, how much will you save in taxes? $2000 less in taxable income means $200 less in tax or $ 200 more in refund. Make your judgement.
