I also work in GS, 70 hours a week. But I can always manage to go to college three days and also 2 hours (thrice in a week) to watch a movie.

the sign you are reffering to is an old italian hand sign that was used to ward off the "evil eye". it became widely know as fans of heavy metal particularly ozzy osbourne used it mistakenly believing that it was some sort of satanic symbol. from there it sort of just became the universal symbol for rock as in "you rock"
