RAJU LAMA A NEPALI POPULAR ARTISTS CAME TO USA IN INVITATION OF HIMALAYAN COMMUNITY OF NEW YORK. HIS FOUR BAND MEMBERS STAYED HERE, AND HIMSELF ALOS STAYED HERE BETTRYING HIS SPONSOR HIMALAYAN COMMUNITY OF NEW YORK. AS A RESULT OF THIS KIND OF INCIDENTS, THE US EMBASSY IN NEPAL REFUSED TO ISSUE VISAS TO NEPALESE ARTISTS. SO, SHOULD WE ENCOURAGE THESE ARTISTS WHO CLOSED DOOR FOR OTHER ARTISTS??????????

ok...
Sapana Shree, RajaRam, Premraja, Karna Das, Roshan Gurung, and a multitude of other Nepali artists are here in the US (they came promising the US embassy in KTM that they will return). And all of them have the right to be where they want to be and what they want to do. Now, what is the point of picking on Raju Lama?
Additionally, a majority of Nepalese in the US (other than those on DV), and for sure those who are complaining, came here promising the US embassy in KTM that they will return, and never did! Himalayan Community.... check your rank and file and find how many of your own members betrayed their own promises to return!
Get a break folks, and don't expect that you own anyone. Just because your vocation is to sing songs does not mean that you sacrifice your rights and freedoms enjoyed by everyone. Perhaps theyb run away to save themselves from the likes of Paras!

Mazemyan, thank you!! Exactly...you said it better than I ever could. BTW, When will these fuggers realize that their swampy back yard is laden with horse-shit and stop complaining over someone else's untrimmed front yard!! WTF?? Half of all Nepali immigrants in NY (and this is a conservative estimate) have overstayed their visas so it makes no sense to me that "some" members of the Himalayan Buddhist Community and the Sherpa Kydiug still make a mountain outta this miniscule molehill. Last I heard Raju Lama has applied for his PR, so he is now a "legal" immigrant. Why don't ya'll clean up your act before you start pointing towards others, damn foolz!! Man, Yo khutta taannu mentality has gotta go!

There is obviously a slight difference between regular citizen and celebrity,in sense the way they should behave. The point is if the US ambassy has really taken the Raju lama thing seriously, that could be a problem for rest of the singers back home. If you are a celebrity then you have to behave like one.

A/X, I'd just post Mazemyan's first para for your post's rebuttal (Mazemyan, my apologies for using your words without approval). BTW, Why even single out Raju Lama when the list can go on and on forever?
"Sapana Shree, RajaRam, Premraja, Karna Das, Roshan Gurung, and a multitude of other Nepali artists are here in the US (they came promising the US embassy in KTM that they will return). Samsara bro/sis,
First of all let me tell you. I didn't expect you to reply my post. Secondly, I said" If you are a celebrity then you have to behave like one" which applies for all of them.

A\X sis, you say: " I didn't expect you to reply my post" Whaaa?? You're posting on a public forum for all to see, so expect words to come outta the hat without you ever knowing what its gonna be (unless you're a novice to such conventional wisdom). Also, you go on to mention: " The point is if the US ambassy has really taken the Raju lama thing seriously"...Now what about the other celebs and atrists who "disappeared" into the underground economy here?? All I can say is that your statement does not corroborate you last post in the minutest sense possible.

No, the US embassy has not taken the "Raju Lama thing" seriously. If they had, they would have picked him up here by now and deported him. He is not hiding. He has put himself in the legal process.
In fact, everytime the US gives someone in Nepal a VISA, the Embassy knows that 80% of the people will not come back. They (US Embassy staff) are not stupid. If they have taken the RL thing seriously, then it could be more because of what those artists who have stayed behind in the US are doing or not doing (not because they stayed behind.)
if you allow an artist from another country to come into yours for good, you expect them to somehow impart the cultural knowledge of that country to your citizens, foster greater understanding of their culture, and such. If these artists start flipping burgers and managing indian restos only and cannot (for reasons out of their control more than the lack of desire) fulfill their responsibility as artists, then what is point of having more singers from Nepal into the US! Give those VISAs to those who dont have special talent so that they make a future here. The artists already have a future in Nepal... looks like the US has realized that now, and thus no VISAs to singers (if that is actually happening).
Genuine tourists (those who will go back), genuine students (those who will actually go to school here and then go back when done), genuine relatives/families of US residents and citizens etc, should get VISAs. Those who are migrating to the US openly after being approved are in a different category. I just don't uderstand why it is such an issue when Nepali "singers" or "artists" or "celebrities" don't get VISAs! Why should they? What more do they bring to the US than a common Nepali? Experiences has perhaps taught the US that they bring nothing special. Or do they? Thousands of Nepali students come here to the US as students and never go back, but the number of students from nepal in the US keeps increasing, doesn't it? Has one Raju Lama not going back stopped the "celebs" from coming to the US! Strange!
Power and Freedom to da people, and Raju Lama is one of them. And yes, I don't know if he claims to be a celebrity. Never heard him say so, but he sings darn well. It is others who want to put him on a pedestal and demand of him things that he does not really want to, or can, deliver. Bitha ma!

Isn't it strange we are talking about other peoples' personal lives here. ( hello, everyone including celebrities have a personal life) ??? Anyway before we start any discussions, shouldn't we take the following points into consideration:
1) Didnt other Nepali singers come to US this year and performed in various States, Sugam Pokharel, Sabin Rai, Deepesh K. Bhattrai and Co. I guess they had a show in NY as well, must have been organized by the Himalayan Community. Heard from reliable sources, that the show was a thorough disappointment.
So how can we say US Embassy refused visas to other singers based on Raju Lama's case.
2) If the US Embassy started thinking in that terms, then hundreds of students every year would never get visas.
Can we spend some time and think. People get visas based on their merits. You can not blame other people for their own shortcomings.
