What is the best place to taste Newari cuisine in Kathmandu? Does anyone know of a place where they might even teach Newari cooking?

Any leads would be appreciated.

Bik.

Mangal bazaar ko Piro Aalu (kahye pachhi naak ra aakha bata pani aaune), Bara, varieties of chhoyela. Old pasal, still don?t have good chair and table. But you can enjoy the food, its traditional newari food pasal. Bhansha Ghar is the best.

I remember one " haryo pardha" Manandhar Bhatti in Jagate, on the way to Surya Binayak. The Tchwela and Jaad was excellent . You need to sit on a "Sukul" and enjoy the delicacies.

There are quite a few in Machan Galli near Indra Chowk. They've got stuff from every body part of Rangha. The "wasa" is good as well.

Or join PrachandaPanthi communists.... Baburam became fan of newari food, and so attracted to Hisila Yemi. He doesn't doing dishes while Hisila cooks delicious newari food.

Similarly so many BAM netas got married to newars, for food and shelter inside Kathmandu Valley.

I heard that Prachanda himself is fan of Karisma KC.. OK this one is nothing to do with newari food. He becomes hurrukka to watch KC's movies.

The best part of Newari dishes, not sold at all to my best knowledge, is paun... the juice out of Amli and sakhar. I'm going to get a permission from FDA to brew it here in DC, add an American twist to it so that I can patent it and sell it in bottles -- $0.05 for recycled bottles. Then watch TestDirector become the first Nepali $100billionnaire.

bik dai,

dwarika's ko "krishna-arpan" is probably the best option if you want to pamper yourself and whoever's in your company and totally indulge in the experience along with the fabulous food. needless to say it's quite expensive but well worth the experience every once in a while.

That is my dream and it will remain as a dream. Good to be able to dream, though. Some folks don't even dream.
Forgive me for telling this story. About 15 years ago, one of my closest friends told me, "After getting the degree, we should buy at least a motorcycle."
My answer was, "Man if I can buy a new bicycle and give away my old one I'd consider I've earned something".

Within a year of my friend's prediction, when working in India, I could have bought a Maruti, make that 2 Maruti's, full money down. That is also working as an honest engineer, no tricks played at all.
So I myself tell all the time, "TestDirector, at least dream of it."
And from childhood, my dream has seldom been about money. I'll make you lol if I tell you what my core dream has been.
I did dream about money though, once in a while. I used to wake up searching for tons of gold coins under mu pillow and under the khat... dhetterarika, it was a dream!

Dreams aside, a jyotishi told me that I'd earn a humongous amount of money after looking at my hands. He even asked me if I'd print his poetry once I got rich. I then looked at the 25 paisa I was paying him and was saying, "God, I did not eat anything today at school for this and you are taking my 25 paisa and again asking for a favor."
How mean I was to the jyotishi. Actually at that time I was interested in how many wives I'd have.

So please...

I forgot to tell .. When I told my core dream to one of my University teachers, it became a joke for her to use against me for the rest of my life there.

KACHINDA... :P

Just go to the Newari restaurant where they sell chwela, kachila and ask for Kachinda. (If they don't know, just swear at them in newari).. eheh.

It's awesome... :D:D

I also like chatamari, with eggs and meat... wow... Yomari... Lakhamari... gurumari... aaithe... Chwela... (Didn't like Patan ko chwela, too spicy)... baru there was this place called JAGATI in Bhaktapur, they sold awesome chwela... with tomatoes. wowoow... m droolin'... not pre-made chwela, you go there, ask for chwela, and they'd make it for you... chulo ma polera... tato tato chwela, homemade jaad and chiura... yahooo.... damn...damn damn...

Maas ko bara is also deadly, when they cook it with meat and pour some gravy in it... yeah...
