India’s BJP warns of severe backlash if Hindi not recognised

KATHMANDU, Aug 18 - Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), the main opposition and the second largest party of India, Monday floated a ‘proposal’ to Nepal to accept Hindi as the second national language, and warned of ‘serious consequences’ if Hindi not reconnised as the major languages of Nepal. The BJP has said that if the new government of Nepal takes any policy against the Hindi language, Hindu religion and India, it would affect the lives of over 7 million Nepali people residing in India. In the wake of the election of the Maoist Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal as the new prime minister of the Federal Democratic Republic of Nepal, the BJP leaders have increased relations with the Madhesh-based party leaders to pressurise the Maoist-led government for the constitutional recognition of Hindi in Nepal, saying that the Hindi language has been popular in Nepal’s southern plains, bordering India, as the second language of communication. Meanwhile, breaking the previous trend of visiting India by the newly elected prime ministers, as the maiden tour to the foreign countries, Prime Minister Dahal today decided to visit China. Dahal is leaving for China on Saturday to take part in the closing ceremony of the Beijing Olympics to be held on August 24.

You cannot blame India and Indian leaders for their interference in Nepal because their every action is motivated by their National Interest. Irrespective of political ideology, each and every political parties in India want to influence the political scenario in Nepal for their National benefit. I think, we need to check ourself and our action. Are our leaders working on our National Interest or on someone elses agenda. Considering the political "Gaijatra" for last 4 months and specially oath taking ceremony by VP and PM I don't think any one have any doubts about our leaders Interest and undermining of Nepali culture and our beliefe.

I see what you are saying but you can COMPLETELY criticize INDIA for this idiocricy.

How can you "threaten" another country and intrude on their sovereignity? This, in theory, is almost like Russia attacking Georgia. How can you dictate another country on it's internal affairs (I know they have been doing it but it has to stop now). I hope our leaders don't back down.

I think this is the extremeness of interfear in nepalese society. Why the fu*k to recoznige this dhoti language as our second language and also they says to effect the 7 millions nepali in India.Woh man what a sheme on nepalese politics.

We listen nepalese song, we like their movies and we talk also some time but that doesn't mean making any language our national. this is radiculious.

we also speak English , more than hindi we learn english from childhood, does it mean making english a national language.?

Leaders were NOT doing anything for the interest of our country since the beginning, only to pocket money for for the betterment of their kid's future, like any other Nepali. If I were them, I would do the same. We have a CULTURE that does NOT think anything beyond our family, in another word- a selfish society, ironically we are brought up to think the Western culture as more selfish. It is about time to acknowledge it.
Batas is right, it is WE who have allowed Hindi language to step over our head. If nothing else, Indian low class 3 hours Bollywood movies and songs should be boycotted. The newer generation are even more dependent, as we can readily see thread here about "Romantic Songs" and "Cricket" as if they are a part of Nepali culture. Until you can change YOUR own life, please do NOT expect others to change everything for you.

Music knows no barrier or boundary and is an ointment to soothe soul. But making a foreign language is totttaly crap.

and why is BJB crying? we haven't said or done anything about banning hindi religion or language. remember we were the only hindu nation one time. And we are trying to say our leaders should speak national language. And how is this gonna effect the 7 million nepalese? what BJP gonna do? repeat the same as they did to the bhutan nepalese.

then so be it - we send their 3-4 million hindi speaking madhesis back to bihar and bring our 7 millions home.

don't write things that come right our of your ass like a typical gorkhali. 7 million will cause your family to starve to death, things are rough already. Music might not have boundary, but you learn the language slowly singing to the same language; accept it without being too philosophical here. So you're surprised now when they speak hindi now. Where in Kathmandu do they teach hindi that we can speak so fluently now? do you think we learnt it from our mother womb? My school never taught me hindi nor did my parents and I didn't have any Indian pen pal either, yet I speak it as good as the Indian. Where do you think I learnt it?
Instead of being too critical, it's important to find a solution. But sadly there is NO solution except WE bend down and take those huge Indian C!!K up your ass. It is too late. We have sold our country to the Indians.The fututre is even dimmed, there will be no Nepal and Nepali.It will be bihari all over.

My precious suggestion to dumb (home and abroad) Nepaliz is:

let oneness rule ya mind. Instead of spending ya energy in nepali or beehary language, watever dress; shatter down all ya mental barriers , come close to oneness. Cant you see da world wearing shirt pant n coat n tie, cant u pricks hear every one speakin in english?

let doz beeharys try impose deir language. I wud rather you suggest people learn english language, computer language, guitar language. i reckon dat makes sense. See da future.

BJP mujiharu ko demand mannu ko satta yehi thik cha ni = send dhotis to India and bring nepalese to Nepal. ani nepaliharu home ta Nepal nai, kasle bhaneko America bhanera. if you displace 4 million dhotis that means 4 million nepalese will fill that vacum.. rest 3 millions, if every nepalese open their doors of their homes to their brothers and sisters, i think we can live in harmony (being emotional here). pari ayo bhane yesto pani garne paristhiti aunla.

for bhutanese nepalese, we always viewed them as refugees, didn't we???

Music is universal language ........ u listen watch all hindi programs music whatever. In so called Nepalese party ...........its more like indian party.

BJP is a political party in India that has its own political agenda and it will do anything to win election. Even upto an extent to creat riots between Hindu and Muslim as the world had seen in 90s. So Why do you want your Nepali brothers and sisters to suffer and even desire to make them refugees. ...ani forcibly Hindi bolaune kura kaha bata ayo??? India has more than 8 National language and for your kind information Nepali is one of them. Making national language doesnt mean you are forced to speak that language. It means there are no furthur riot in the name of language when our elected official like VP Jha give speech in hindi. The fact is simple, it is political battle where people like you and me will suffer. BJP in India is confused and desperate to find an agenda they can use in the election next year and are willing to play any card that may reunite their Hindu base and Madesh parties want to get the best benefit out of their currrent position in CA about which even they are sure that it will be impossible to maintain after next election. Historically, Nepali congress and UML are close to Congress I in India and Maoist has been able to gain closeness to communist party in India. That means, BJP and Madeshi parties both were looking someone they can partner with as such they got this partnership of necessaity. As such, both parties desperate to maintain their political base are trying their best to divide Nepali in Nepal and Indians in India. Understand the big picture guys...these mo fo netas are dividing people and we are acting as their puppet....
