Subject: Immigration Issues about students returning from Nepal-

For those of you student who are returning from Nepal has to face immigration questions in the port of entry to USA. It is suggested to answer the questions related work during their stay in USA, AFTER TALKING TO THEIR ATTORNEY only, if you had worked using SS#. If you answered as "No, I didn't work, they will check using your SS#, and ultimately will make return you back to your home country. Recently 2 students send back to Nepal from Chicago airport. Moreover, it may be good idea not to go back home until you got H1 visa, if you had worked using your SS# in USA.

The Best Port of Entry (POE) is Minneapolis/St.Paul International Airport (MSP). It has Reviews of 5/5 and i personally have come through MSP port of Entry. The officers were extremely Nice and very friendly.. Avoid Chicago, Los Angeles, Newark, Dallas..
If you want to be on safe side, always make MSP as port of Entry....But MSP has only few direct international flights so it might be difficult sometimes..When i came, i had a direct flight from Amsterdam to Minneapolis.

Good Luck and be Honest.

lightcz usually they can't hold you if you're a gc. it was very unfair to you. did you get your gc from asylum and went to Nepal, other than that what could trigger that suspension, it's very unusual.

@kalopani,
That's why I thought too. I got it from Family relationship. When I got home, I called my lawyer next day. He said the same thing and told me call him next time it happens.
But, when you are 2nd class citizen, you can't do anything against these A holes unless you have extra money and sue them.

student who have been caught selling alcohol or cigratte to under age should avoid returing till they finish there education; even though selling alcohol to minor is a misdemenor class A for an american, however, for a F1 student it is considered a Felony, reason Misdemenor class A in Texas and most other states can result in 2 years in prison and 4000 fine. But, for foreign students who have a record of Misdemenor class A will result in automatic Felony because they were liable or could be sent to a year in prison. For a F1 student to have a record showing record which indicates he could be sent to a year in prison is a felony.

OK Blame Sujata KOIRALA

Why ? you may ask. here is teh story.

Recently ( about 5 months ago) I went to Australia to visit my families and immigration officers asked me to come with her in a different room.I followed her but she asked me to wait outside and she went inside. She came back after 45 minutes and saidshe wants to ask few questions although passport seems to be fine.I studied in Australia previously so she asked me how do I go to the place I filled in immigration card, like which train I would take , those sort of question. I said I have someone waiting for me outside but if I would have to take the train, then I take this line etc etc. After 15 minutes she finished her questions and she said I could go. I asked her to stamp my passport and I asked her whats the reason since I am frequent traveler to Australia. She said she has order from above to check all Nepalese passport to make sure person holding the passport is the actual person. She also said ," I am not authorised to say but someone in Nepal is selling thousand of Nepalese passport and we already have 100's of people entering with changed photo".

I became speechless.

Later I found out that people buy passport with Australian visa ( it was so easy to get student visa couple of years ago) and change photo and go to Australia.
I was also told my relatives that they met First secretary from Nepalese embassy and he also told Australian government has asked them to verify all the details before issuing the new passport mostly in lost passport case.
what Nepalese did was change the photo go to Australia and then make new passport from Canberra wheich then will become genuine passport.

anyway I was in Nepal couple of weeks ago and my cousin was going to Australia .we were on the same flight to Bangkok .The immigration officer @ Nepal asked his any ID from Australia , he shoed his DL . He asked the officer why would you want Australian ID in Nepal, the guy replied , Mantri le nai passport bechera khi sakyo, ani aarkai manche Australia chirchaa.Hami le check na gare kasle garne?

later my cousin told me Nepalese students were stopped in Australian immigration port and returned back to Nepal, Immigration officer called their college and Universities and checked their attendance , work hours and didn't let them in.Students in Australia gets multiple travel and 20 hour work rights . They have no problem going in and out. In our days student used to go on holiday on weekends to another countries.Thank to Sujata Koirala Now it seems they cannot even return to their own country as 70 % of Nepalese are denied entry ( as told by my cousin). She as a forign minister must take responsibility for all the forged passport.

Same thing must have happened in US port of entry , as they are looking for suspicious passport and while checking the passport they ask question and and if any fault found they deny the entry.

what vname wrote above might be partly responsible for it?

I hate this kujata. Don't you remember one of the scandals about a year earlier involving her personal secretary? He collected crores of rupees from people by selling dreams of sending to america. He is still not caught and kujata is definitely behind these rackets.

What more can you expect? She recently also protected a nepali ambassador to saudi arabia who was eating the funds of the deceased. They don't seem to show any depth for corruption and have left with no morality, even worse than animals. And still, you will see the educated nepalese in US, the sycophants aka the bootlickers, wagging their tails around these politicians when they visit here. So aren't these dogs also responsible for promoting these kinds of mess?

I am so sad to see nepal and ordinary nepalese people being suffered due to politicians. Why good politician (like Narahari Acharya) does not rise in Nepal, but Kujata makes a swift ride close to PM just in few years? Now I am starting to believe that Nepalese society has systematic flaw for making path to cunning people like Kujata but blocking the roads of honest and hardworking people. We get all bad news somehow related to the systematic failure of Nepal and corrupt politicians including the case being discussed in this thread and many more. Therefore they (I mean the politicians) are doing the crime that is much larger crime than what they think they are doing.

When the immigration people ask for ID @ POE, DO NOT, NEVER, EVER, EVER hand over the State ID or Driver's license to 'em. Instead, provide them with your School ID. Also, do not carry those plus SS Card in your Wallet. Just to be on safe Side!!

@Casino - why would they ask for another ID at POE when they already have the passport with them? I have been to Nepal a couple of times and during return did not have to bring forward any other ID besides the passport.

hi,

My roommate was sent back to Nepal last week from Chicago too for working on SSN. She is really devastated as she had only 1 semester left to graduate. She wants to re-apply for VISA? I know the chances are very slim, but do you know anyone who has been thru same situation.

And other suggestions?

Thanks

 Hello Everybody,

I just came to know that one of the guy whom I know & attends community college here in Chicago has been detained from ORD. We are really devastated hearing this news. Like I said above, everyone whose POE is at ORD, don't panic when the Immigration people ask you question & answer politely without any hesitation.Be on the safe side guys!!
