Full version of Adobe Acrobat does that. But you have to buy it. There are several other commercial word to pdf convertor. Sometimes, the easiest workaround is just upload your word file into your gmail and then open and print that document from your gmail. This will produce a pdf document. I think, it will not work if you have pictures at your document.

You can use CutePDF available here for free http://www.cutepdf.com/Products/CutePDF/writer.aspWhen you install cutepdf, it installs itself at a printer. So when you open your word document, you go to Print and choose Cutepdf as the printer. When you print, cutepdf actually saves the document as a PDF file you can use this to convert anything to PDF.

If you are using Office 7, you will see the option to Save as 'PDF' format itsself. I just noticed that a couple of weeks back. CutePDF is a nice option too. You can convert any document to PDF using cutePDF.

I would vote MS Office 2007 built in feature "save as pdf" as one of the best option. Cutepdf is great because it acts as a printer and prints anything (docs/ spreadsheets/ power points/ webpages) as pdf. In case you want to the other way i.e. convert pdf to word Hellopdf (freeware) might help you a lot. But you need to beware when the file size is big and when the pdf has multiple pages with too many details...It will exhaust all your system resources...

I would suggest you to use aafter.com to convert a .doc or word document into a PDF. You simply need to type pdf: followed by the source version of the html file, or word file (saved as html) in the AAfter's search box. Or, you can just paste the word doc after typing pdf: in the search box and press enter. It’s free and you need not to download any software.

If you have running office 2010 then that's really easy. 1.) Open your .docx document 2.) In the file menu, choose "Save As" 3.) Give the file name and CHoose "Save as Type" as PDF in drop down. Done
