I am in OPT now and wishing to extend it. When i talked with the DSO in my college, he says to wait for few weeks to start the process as college has not received any specific guidelines yet. Does anybody know when can we start the process of OPT Extension? Has anybody started the process? Your valuable suggestion will be really appreciated. Thanks.

I'm waiting for h1b lottery results, so will wait till then, if i dont make it then i'll go with extension. I guess for the 17 mnths extension u need to have ur company e-verified. So is it e-verified? I think you can apply for extension 48 hours before ur OPT expires.

TechGuy, Thanks for your suggestion. I am also waiting for H1B lottery results but the main issue is that i have only 2 weeks more for the expiration of my OPT. As my H1B application is non-premium so it may take more than 2 weeks to get the result for me and by the time i get result my OPT will have been expired. For the worst case, if i don't get selected, will i be able to extend OPT at that time when my OPT is already expired? If not, is there any solution?

do u still have that 60 days grace period left, if yes then i guess there will be no problem, but still ask ur international advisor, but i guess u already did that, but dont worry i think , u still have time, once the application reaches USCIS , then u r safe, so wait for 2 weeks and hope ur international advisor gets any info regarding this.
Lets see if someone who has more info can suggest u here.

As far as I know, you have to file for OPT extension before your OPT expires... also, the company has to be e-varified... as said by others, its good to check with DSO~
