there is no legal provision for US citizens to bring ancestral properties to us . technically us citizen cannot have ancestral property . if you were Just a green card holder or on non immigrant visa it would have been so easy . only way us citizen can being money from Nepal is either from salary or return foreign direct investment after paying tax .

so use unofficial way .

money2go : when you are totaling your car to save 20 bucks a months by not going for full ( comprehensive)
insurance coverage , people should not listen to your money management tricks .

if the NRB gives you approval and are not US citizen you can transfer as much as 15000 per person with certain restrictions . they need to be sure its not money laundering . i have done a direct transfer as mush as 10000 USD while i was a student . i used western money transfer but the rate was shitty .

If NRB gives approval, you can bring whole lot more. Politicians like KP Oli, actress like Manisha koirala etc come to US for medical treatment all the time. I am pretty sure their expenses in north of 100k and they are paying bills for sure.

So there is definitely a way if. NRB gives approval, and I think they do for medical reasons. But I am not aware general rule ( not expection ) to let green card holder something like 25k per year or even 5k per year. Student can bring tuition fee based on their fee in i-20, traveller can bring 1500. Those are only two general rule I am aware of.

This crap is definitely hurting Nepal in long run. Interest rate in us is dirt cheap, if it's easier to send and bring it back, I am sure people will save in Nepal and bring when needed. India is fairly flexible on this and Indians save all their $$ in India .

there is no cap for medical treatment, certain investment, technology transfer , salary and wage and so on . but the general assumption is you cannot take $$$ out of country and the sole purpose of this rule is to stop money laundering .

if you convince and declare that the intention of your transfer is not money laundering you can take certain amount at one time . but definitely not 1 crore or 2 crore at a time. this rule doesn't apply to American citizen

why rule doesn't apply to American citizen ?

if you are us citizen and later if they found out that you are involved in money laundering, they cannot call you back and arrest you as you are us citizen , but if ur are green card, they can always write to cancel your gc and put you in trial as per nepal gov rules
