When I stepped first in this country (US), first thing I noticed was that my university was established on mid 18th century. And I have been telling this to my friends that, this is time when our country leaders were fighting to unify the nation. This was just a half centuries after the great King Prithivi Narayan Shah and his predecessors were still fighting to unite the greater Nepal. Now in 2008, we are probably around in same differential era as compared to the world around us. I have been inspired to write this article reading a news that a multinational the European Organization for Nuclear Research is busy developing a gigantic scientific instrument near Geneva, where it spans the border between Switzerland and France about 100 m underground. It is a particle accelerator used by physicists to study the smallest known particles – the fundamental building blocks of all things. It will revolutionize our understanding, from the minuscule world deep within atoms to the vastness of the Universe. According to my limited knowledge that I gained as a student of as a science from the Tribhuvan University, during my Intermediate in Science degree, the scientist are trying to re-create the "Bang Theory" which postulates that two particle moving in a very high speed collided, and shattered into pieces to create the Universe. They are re-creating the evolution of universe in their laboratory spending billions of dollars, decades of time and million of genius human brain cells. This they are saying could be very big, and as big as the invention of the “Internet” or World Wide Web (WWW) that was started in the very same location that they are performing this test. What are we doing now? We entrusted our leaders to change the country and steer our “OLD NEPAL” to a “NEW Nepal”. We the people of Nepal mandated our new leaders to write a new constitution to develop the stable country. Developments that have been stalled ironically right after the establishment of “Democracy”. Forgetting the price that thousand of Nepalese have paid during this period, the leaders are busy in petty issues. It took us more than three months to finally get a Prime Minister whose life span by the way is being speculated to be less than six months. Why, because they could not reach a power sharing deal. Let me ask this question, the mandate of people for this government was just to write a fair constitution. If this was their mere goal and if every one of our leaders was honest enough to do their job, I do not understand why holding certain portfolio or certain ministry was a sticking point for so long. While this is being done around the world we are engaged in fighting a unspoken civil war, a leg pulling politics where one is trying to secure a position in government where and the other is trying to bring it down. Today, there was one of many Nepal Bandha’s what for, “In a protest to Federalism”. The political party that called for “Today’s Banda” believes that the Federalism based on caste or geography would lead to religious and ethnic war in a culturally and religiously diverse country. My request to the today’s leader is let us rise above the minor issues start thinking out of the box here and lets leave these minor issues aside that are deviating us from our focus. Our focus here should have been developing a new Nepal with sound constitution; a constitution that is written for the people and not borrowed from neighboring countries or is affected by personal benefits and short term earnings. I urge our political leader to rethink the Banda’s and other petty issues or else a next generation from Nepal will walk out of that county and land to a world where they find themselves so primitive just because people were working on Book Press and researching on laboratories we were still trying to sharpen our knives or even striking two Darshan Dhunga to create fire. I wish that my children would not be left out like our parents were left out either due to Rana Regime or even Shah dynasty. Let us see what is happening around us and if we can’t catch up with their speed let’s not start moving back ward.
