BIG MOMA did it!!
Hhehe
Shaq KICkS man. But ..wait a Minute!!! Why are The NBA coaches undermining the Across the Sea Players????? Weren't YAO supposed to be playing for longer minutes?? After all He leaded the Western Conference with the Fans Votes. But what can he do in this Country. Lucky Shaq, he got the better off the Coach. Yao played for some 18 minutes and had 8-14 shooting. Scored 16 points. He could have easily scored some 25 + points if he were given more minutes. Let's not take anything away from SHaq. Just that it wasn't so fair in part of Yao.

I also admire the effort of the Eastern Conf. atheletes. They took it down to the wire. Only if Iverson had scored couple of Baskets more or Paul Pierce was played some 10 more minutes it would have been really thrilling.
Yet, it was a great game.

Good Luck Yao and the Eastern Conf.

Rusty Posted on 16-Feb-04 05:36 AM

In most of the NBA all-star games, they always give MVP to that player who scores the highest... Last night, if you compare Shaq and Tim Duncan, both had kinda similiar stats. Shaq doesn't have assist, TD has assist. Shaq has points, TD doesn't have.. I thought Shaq and TD both should share the award... both co-MVP like in year 99 or 00 all star. ANyways, nice try EAST, without any 7 footer..

Zzed Posted on 16-Feb-04 07:57 AM

Ha ha ha, you all make me laugh, none of you seem to have any solid knowledge on any of your favourite teams, you pick of some top charting team and teamates and out of the blue pop up here. Do you know? beside watching game, there are so many tactics in the game, unique game strategy for each team that are very interesting to keep track of. Thats how americans enjoy the game. You people sound to me like just obsessed with what american fellas are doing and trying to be hero here. Makes me laugh out loud. Be like an american and enjoy NBA. And nepali girls? ha ha ha what a joke. I bet no nepali girls ever watch NBA or even if they are compelled to watch, no girls understand it at all. Only american woman have the spirit. So chill you all before bullshitting here.

Rusty Posted on 16-Feb-04 08:49 AM

AX,
Yes... Yao got more votes from the people, but obviously Americans want Shaq as a MVP player. So I guess Shaq got more time, and more points. That's how things work in America. Yao has a hype that is broaden from American medias such as creating YAO Vs SHAQ hype and so on.. but when it comes to ball game, Yao cannot do what he is capable of doing. He gets harassment from opponent players, he gets elbow from Shaq... as you know. Language and culture still plays very important role in Yao's case. Maybe after 5 years, Yao will be at his best..
AX Posted on 16-Feb-04 09:40 AM

it's a joke that people are comparing Shaq and Yao. Shaq has been in the league for 12(?) years and for Yao, it's his 2nd.

I do not like Shaq that much ( could be that he is a Lakers?) He has established himself as one of the greatest Center. I rank him as the 3rd greatest Center in the NBA history behind Wilt and Russell. The others are Patrick, Hakeem and David Robinson; and they do not even come to close to the first 3.

It’s not about who started the All Star Game at the Center position. It’s too bad that Shaq does not come from the most populous country as Yao does (But Why????). I am not saying Yao is that bad of a player. He is very finesse player for his size, got jump shots and passes ball well. He needs to hit the gym more in the off-season to add some more pounds. He got potential to be a star and he got Van Gundy on his side.

As rusty said we can only hope in Yao's case....
yOuNgBlOoDz Posted on 16-Feb-04 04:01 PM

rusty.. then whats the purpose of.. balloting..

chose the shaq, kobe, td, kg, cassell, and allen frm west
chose ai, kidd, tmac, carter, j oneal frm east

n lets have all star game

why go thru all this ballotin.. if majority of votes cannot see their favorite star playing lotssa minutes..

n AX bro.. nba ain't just of american now.. its worldwide... if we look at.. america n whole continent of africa.. will vote.. shaq.coz he's black american,, so support frm blacks n americans.. he's got more people behind him then yao does.. .but they don't him ...its his baad luck..

beside.. shaq got more vote frm internet.. then frm hand voting.. ..

Are you Kuirey?
casey00 Posted on 16-Feb-04 06:36 PM

I think both the teams played a superb game without making the game boring.

I think Mr.Carlisle made some coaching errors and East lost:

VINCE CARTER: VINSANITY!! He was the leading vote getter in for this and all he got was less than 15 mins. Now wait a minute in those minutes he performed really wells scoring 11 pts...and imagine how exciting he makes the game.. I hate Carlisle for not giving him enough minuted..I wonder why???????

J-Magloire: PLayed awesome. Great player from GUESS WHERER???? Toronto baby. His chances were pretty good of getting MVP if east would have won.

Shaq: Good game ..has Yao gotten more minutes. I think he would have gotten the MVP. ANyway this is the first time ever that two international players were so close to getting MVP....Magloire and Yao.

NBA 2004.

I think this is the year for Lakers again. If they dont win ..they are going to lose KOBE.....but again if they stay healthy..dont see any reason why they wont.

TWolves: Garnett --- u gotta win some playoffs games first before u start thinking abt ..championship :(

Teams to watch:

Nets, Spurs , Mavs and Pistons.

Surprise of the Year:
Nuggets.

MVP: KG
Most improved player: Zach Randloph
Rookie of the year: If Denver goes to the playoffs ..MELO is the man..if not..its going to Lebron.
Sixth man of the year: Antawn Jamison.

Does the statistics mean anything? Yao is as good as Shaq if not better than him. I had enjoyed every single match where yao had beaten Shaq's ass off.
Hats off to NBA

-- Yes, statistics means a lot in sports. That's what American sports are all about. That's why soccer is not popular game in the US. Ok, to compare and contrast Yao and Shaq, they are still uncomparable 'at this point'. Compare Shaq's stat from his first year--

Season Rb BPG pts
92-93 13.90 3.53 23.4
03-04 10.90 2.26 20.8

His career avg is 27.3, 12.10, and 2.59.

Let's not provide the whole stats here...I would say that Shaq is not at his best this year. Now talkning about Yao, he could have won a few games against Shaq, but he obviously doesn't have the same stats-- last year and this year. No matter what you say, Shaq is one of the dominant center of all time, behind Chamberlein and Kareem Abdul. Remember that Shaq is playing in 21 century, where NBA is more competative and more challenging. "Maybe" after 5 years, Yao will be comparable to Shaq. Right now, the problem with Yao is that he's not yet found his feet in this culture and NBA customs... He will be better player in future, but I don't think he's got the same caliber as Shaq.
AX Posted on 17-Feb-04 09:12 AM

Rusty, you forgot celts great Bill Russell. I think he is 2nd greatest center of all time behind Wilt. Kareem comes to close 4th :)
Rusty Posted on 17-Feb-04 10:38 AM

AX, oops i forgot.. Also, note that you cannot compare contemporary NBA games to the 60s or 70s games. They are legend, but things would be a lot different if the same legends were playing now. How can you believe, Wilt Chamberlein averaging 22.9 career rebounds and 30+ points in 1045 games?? Same thing is true with Bill Russel-- 22+ rebounds per game. Damn. Who can do that for a whole season or throughout the career. Looking at modern NBA games, I think Shaq is great player. With his 330 lbs body, he can run back n forth, he can score, he can dunk, he blocks the shot, he grabs rebounds... he does everything possible...
maxim Posted on 17-Feb-04 12:12 PM

No, doubt shaq is the best center ...in morden NBA.but the worst in sportsman spirit...................Lakers won 3 title in row n shaq believed he n his team is unbeatable...........He forgot about bulls n celtic ..............Their titles........Shaq continued to give speeches hurting other teams emotionsss.called kings ................queens............he even attacked the wife of christie through hes ruthless words......I mean why should anyplayer go beyond than thte fame to the family........Shaq .................. Brilliant but foolish..................
AX Posted on 17-Feb-04 12:29 PM

That could be the reason I don't like Shaq :)
nepali_girl Posted on 17-Feb-04 12:35 PM

Who cares abt his personal life..its abt da magic he brings in the court!!!

:)
k_loaded Posted on 17-Feb-04 12:51 PM

I am wondering when the rule of goaltending came into effect. Isnt it true that big guys in 50s-70s scored and rebounded more because of no goaltending restriction. They were allowed to interfere the ball around the ring, both to score and rebound. (correct me if i am wrong).

Wilt chamberland once averaged 50pts per game in a season playing 80 games! Grabbed 55 rebound in a single game! Not to mention 100 pts in a single game.
First seven years of his carreer he avg nearly 40 pts a game.
Man, many of us cannot believe it. But its right up there in his legendary resume.

Has goaltending rule to do anything with his stat?
Rusty Posted on 17-Feb-04 12:59 PM

Maxim, I agree with you. I will never ever appriciate any "personal attacks", but cold war or fight between two teams creates a rivalry, which makes sports even competative and interesting. Yes, he once summoned them Queen; then, that aroused the Kings do something about it.. It made their games even more interesting, didn't it? Look at 90s Knicks Vs Heat Rival, which was rated on top.

I agree that the most of the great players like MJ or Tim Duncan don't have that kind of attitude.. Shaq was not behind to say his own teamate Kobe to opt out of 'his' team. So , it has both pros n cons
Rusty Posted on 17-Feb-04 01:34 PM

K_Loaded, goaltending was one reason why one player could grab so many rebounds. I think the most important factor was "defense". Back then the NBA was about open and offensive play, just like Mavs play these days. The defence is important but 20 years ago no one really cared. It was about running the court and getting the easy baskets on the other end. If there was any defense strategy, how could Wilt score 100 points aganist the Knicks?? Can you imagine any player doing that this season? I've seen up to 60-70 pts..
maxim Posted on 17-Feb-04 02:17 PM

YEA rusty u r absolutely rt.......................it raises competition and makes the game of ball more interesting...tody west division n some team from east are full of talents......they can poses threat to anyother team n is serious candidate for the championship........three or 4 yrs ago when lakers won 3 championship,,,,,,can u name anyother team which was as talented as nowwwwwww.SHAQ'S 330lbs body n some if not most wrong calls help them win championship....OFCOURSE class act KOBE.if shaq could prove his critic this season by winning championship.HATS OFF....

Come on Guys!!! I never disagreed with the Claims that Shaq is one of the greatest player of all times. I am just saying Yao had posted better numbers against Shaq and in the same line his team had won more than 3 games. I am not taking the issue out of hands here. If I were a coach on a game against Lakes I would like to have Yao before anyone else amongst the whole of the Current NBA atheletes. I am just speaking for myself. To me he is as good as Shaq if not better. And oh yeah for the second straight season fans from all over the world had CLAImed that by voting for YAo ahead of Shaq despites Shaq's every single statistical and atheletic reputaions.

AX Posted on 18-Feb-04 11:39 AM

nos???

talkign about nos???

damn brad miller from KINGS (shaq would have said QUEENS) have better nos than the tallest dude in NBA from China.

Zzed Posted on 18-Feb-04 12:55 PM

Brad Miller was always better in middle than Shaq according to US rankings. Miller, the 7-footer averaged 13.1 points and 8.3 rebounds, shot 49.3% and made the Eastern Conference All-Star team last season. Those numbers hardly compare to O'Neal's gaudy 27.5 points, 11.1 rebounds and 57.4% shooting. Miller's consistency in was in all 10 in terms of field goal percentage, free throw percentage, three-point shots made per game, rebounds, assists, steals, blocked shots, turnovers, scoring average and team winning percentage that gave him the edge over O'Neal at the center position. Kobe Bryant was the top shooting guard, Jason Kidd the No. 1 point guard. The closest race was at power forward, with Dirk Nowitzki .
