Month of february is the month of exchange gifts, flowers, candies, hugs and kisses all in the name of Valentines Day. Its the day for couples to express love, and to celebrate their spirit of love.

What are the 10 unusual valentine gifts you have ever received? What can one do to make the day more special?

I have never received a single valentines day gift in my life. Does that answer your question?

Why are we so into commercialized holidays. When we love someone should we not express that love to our special someone everyday. Don't get me wrong. I'm not saying that guys /ladies need to buy their special someone flowers on a daily basis or give foot massages every weekend (not that this is a bad idea). All I'm saying is everyday, we should be celebrating each other, with little gestures, a warm hug when you come home from a long day; a phone call in the middle of the afternoon to ask that special someone if everything is allright or just a call to say hello. Too much can become quite suffocating as well, but in my opinion these little things count the most and in the long run will help your relationship blossom and grow.
P.S.
To satisfy the requirements of Abhi who started this thread...the most unusual gifts I have received are, I can't remember...I think my special someone has been paying too much attention to the advertisements or just gets lucky and picks the right salesperson to help him with the gift.
As for luckydude...I'm sure you received gifts for valentines day even if it was not wrapped in some pretty paper...a day with your loved one, I'd say was a darn special gift...just a thought, I could be wrong.

absolutely, one thing I care more than a gift and more than anything else is my life-partner. If I could spend a day with her, that would be more than anything else to me (but I feel sorry for myself because I still need to wait one more year for that). Those of you who get to do it, you are damn lucky, luckier than me :(

Some ideas to make this valentines day special (NOTE: these ideas can be applied any other day)
1. Book a room at a special resort, far from the hustle and bustle of reality...GET OUT OF TOWN and make romance your top priority.
2. Go for a long stroll, weather permitting in the evening when the path is lit by the soft moonlight...inspirational and truly romantic
3. Steal a kiss when your partner least expects it.
4. Hold hands while watching a movie...something romantic (dats upto each individual couples own taste)
5. Cook for the other person, give the daily cook a break...if its the female, let the male cook, if the male is the cook...let the female....I know yall get it.
6. Don't buy roses....ugggg....yeah they're beautiful but so common. Instead buy some daisies or tulips or a sunflower or something else...do we all have to stick with the same old all the time....NO...be creative. If fresh flowers aren't an option get creative, autumn dries make a wonderful and creative arrangement. If you have no clue...then visit your local hobby store, they have tons of ideas.
7. Go to the beach...so what if its winter and its cold...thats what you have each other for. Take plenty of blankets, build a bonfire (as long as the law permits) and lay under the naked sky...watch the night sky and tell each other about dreams and just enjoy each others company.
8. Hire a babysitter for those with kids, TAKE A BREAK...one day away from the little one will leave you refreshed. For those who have no kids....don't hire a babysitter...ehehe
9. Write your loved one a poem, doesn't have to be the work of an artist, just neatly jot your feelings down...it'll read like poetry.
10. Make love to each other through your mind...and oh yes...if it leads to something else....burn them calories...no one is watching and even if someone is...just pull the blinds down.
11. for all the single females out there, get a bunch of your single friends together and make it your fun day....watch movies, go for a buggy ride in central park...who knows...you might just run into that ONE...and single males...do the same, hang out at the local coffee shop or bar/pub and you might just catch the eye of some beautiful creature.
12. Be happy regardless of being single, in love, out of love, no matter what....just be happy....happiness draws people to you...
and there are endless other ideas...just too lazy to write now. Just let Cupid do the rest.
P.S. Shefali, just smile and this year you might just meet your special valentine

once while I was travelling on a bus a guy next to asked me 'Is shivaratri called valentines day in english" I could not help laughing. He was trying to figure out why everywhere people were talking about vallentines day on a Shivaratri instead of paying homage to the lord by taking his prasadi.( that year shiva ratri had fallen in vallentines day).
anyway who cares for valentines day.for lovers like us every day is a vallentines day.
