watched any HINDI movies lately?? i watched this new movie called Baghban. it's a lil sad, a lil funny, sometimes happy. the story's good thou. that's all.
dautari Posted on 31-Oct-03 08:30 AM

I heard Bagban is a great movie. I haven't been able to watch any new hindi movies ever since I came to the US in August.
SimpleGal Posted on 31-Oct-03 09:18 AM

I read the reviews of Baghban and it seems like a repetition of some old movies like Avtaar(with Rajesh Khanna and Shabana Azmi) with a different twist at the end. Lots of melodrama but worth it, apparently. For those of us who are fans of Amitabh Bachchan (I am a huge fan of his!!) it's a treat re. And the gorgeous Hema Malini, who looks prettier than her daughter whose movies land on their rear each time, is back on screen! I hope to watch it sometime, probably during Thanxgiving break... :)

mickthesick Posted on 31-Oct-03 10:29 AM

..i saw "samay" starring sushmita sen and i enjoyed it......it might be a flop in india but an intelligent audience in nepal and in the west will definitely enjoy the movie.......sushmita deserves praises for the performance.

another one was "88 antop hill".....this movie is immensely entertaining......i enjoyed it....spooky at times.

I saw Market recently. Some parts were interesting. I think the movie would have been better had they just made it into a documentary instead, sans the "do good" part. the melo-drama of it , is unbearable!

I also saw Calcutta mail, I forgot what happened, oh yeah, just remembered, its booooring!
dautari Posted on 31-Oct-03 04:15 PM

mickthestick, I watched "88 Antop Hill" when I was in Nepal .. it was interesting but to me, it seemes just a full feature version of the Indian detective TV series like "C.I.D.". Just my opinion.
SimpleGal Posted on 31-Oct-03 05:17 PM

A movie that's worth watching is Moksha, with the hunk (who does superb acting mind you!) Arjun Rampal and our own Manisha Koirala. For those of us who love parallel cinema, it's a must see! It's the second best after Dil Chahta Hai, which is one of my all time faves! ;)

I saw Devdas yesterday. Yes, it't not the latest movie but I got a chance to see it just yesterday.

Quite a good movie with two of the fairest india has to Offer in it. Aish's performance was sensational and madhuri was at her best. An American movie critic with an eastern movie taste has commented on this movie. He was saying that in indian movies when the heroine begins to dance hundreds of her pals dance with her.

Very true in Devdas too. But that's what I like about indian movies too. And there is a perfectly logical explanation too. In the movie, Aish is in a village and they used to belong to a clan of dancers. So its perfectly logical that she should have numerous dancer friends.

After all what is a movie without dance sequence. It's tea without sugar. Or you can say a wine glass without the wine.

I saw "kante" yesterday too. That movie is just like a "kaanta" in comparison to "Devdas". That's all I can say for the movie.

.DAUTARI.....i agree with you on 88 antop hill being like a cid series.....but at times when indian movies are no more than 5 or 6 songs with actors and actress singing around the trees of switzerland and australia.....88 antop hill does provide us with a varying subject matter and a good plot of twisted stories and moments....

the main reason why i liked the movie was because it's off the track of the tradiational hindi movies....this is also the reason why i liked sushmita sen starrer "samay".

BY THE WAY...THIS IS TO ALL......I JUST FINISHED WATCHING "SCARY MOVIE 3".....AND I'VE GOT TO ADMIT......I LAUGHED MY ASS OFF FOR THOSE 1 AND A HALF HOUR OR SO...I HIGHLY RECOMMEND YOU GUYS TO WATCH IT IF YOU HAVEN'T.
dautari Posted on 01-Nov-03 02:20 PM

i agree with you michthestick .. scary movie 3 is the best of the franchise. Proably because they hired this other guy to direct the movie. I forgot his name but he was the guy who directed the "Airplane!" series in the eighties so perfectly. yes, scary movie 3 is full of laughter ... the part i liked the best ... the one involving the newsreader and the teleprompter. It was a 90 minutes movie and it seemed like less than 15 minutes. I was enjoying the movie so much .. and suddenly it was the end. I am thinking of going back to see it again .... but I am also saving cash to go and see Matrix Revolutions next weekend.
dautari Posted on 01-Nov-03 02:23 PM

SimpleGal, I have nothing against Arjun Rampal but he was so stiff in Mokshya ... certainly not his best performance. He was much better in Dil Ka Rishta although he has miles to go before he can call himself an actor. But his looks... yes ... he is a va-va-voom!! If I was gay I would have fallen for him ;)
SITARA Posted on 01-Nov-03 03:08 PM

S. Gal... been waiting for another movie of Arjun Rampal; that will be on my next "to view" list. Thanks! :)
sparsha Posted on 01-Nov-03 03:20 PM

Not a new movie but would recommend "Bawandar" to all those who love to watch "art"cinema (I am a big fan of so called art movie, as some of my friends love to call documentary). Nandita das, and Raghuvir Yadav have done a wonderful job (my opinion). I enjoy watching Nasiruddin Shah, Kulbhusan Kharwanda, Smita Patil, Shabana Azmi, Girish Karnard, Om Puri, Deepti Naval..etc. Aakrosh is one of my all time fav.

Am I out of date?
funnyface Posted on 01-Nov-03 10:47 PM

watched "joggers park". dun bother it suxx. the title track song is used repititively. and its not even remarkable, the lead actress, a total unknown is hopeless. one ought to po some gardeinng instead. and yea, arjun rampal has it all. he just needs a bit of polishing up as an actor. ash has done just that, perhaps he cud too.

What about Govinda??

Oooh! My fav. actor. I can watch Govinda movie all day long! He can dance like chayampatti, he can fight like Bruce Lee, he can make you laugh like crazy. ehehh! Haven't watched any hindi movies lately but "Tere Naam" -- Raam Raam! Critics raved about salman khan's acting... harey! Although he was better in second half eh -- Saving Grace!

Last good hindi movie was of course "Lagaan"! Loved that movie, brilliant in all aspect.

Few good hindi movies I remember eh!
Drohkaal -- Om Puri and Nasirudhdhin Shah -- do you want anything else? Although Ashish Vidyarthi stole the show. Brilliant, mindblowing screenplay and performance.

Ish Raat Ki Subah Nahi: Thriller eh! Superb screenplay and direction. A guy has a wife and a mistress. His wife comes to know about his mistress. Tensed and stuck between wife and mistress, he punches a guy who happens to be a gangster(Aashis Vidyarthi again) -- and the story of a dreadful night to save himself, his wife and his mistress starts to unfold with bunch of twists and turns. oooha!

Mirch Masala -- It's better than Mississippi Masala.;)
Bombay Boys (Rated R for language ;))
Hydrabad Blues
Maine Pyar Kiya ehoooo!
and all the Govinda Movies eh!!!
